To address this, our research focuses on nickel-iron-chromium alloys (such as Inconel 718 and A286) and cobalt-based superalloys. To mitigate hydrogen embrittlement in fasteners with tensile strengths of 1900 MPa, we control the steelmaking process to minimize internal hydrogen content. Additionally, post-plating baking cycles are performed within 4 hours of electroplating, holding the parts at 200℃ for 20+ hours. This drives out any hydrogen that may have diffused into the steel during processing.
What makes titanium fasteners suitable for cryogenic service down to -270℃?
Unlike carbon steel, which becomes brittle in cold environments, titanium alloys like Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Extra Low Interstitials) retain their ductility down to cryogenic temperatures. Reducing interstitial impurities such as oxygen and nitrogen prevents brittle fractures, allowing the fasteners to absorb energy under impact loads.
When should Duplex 2205 be selected over standard A4-80 (316) stainless steel?
Duplex 2205 should be selected when high yield strength and superior corrosion resistance are required in chloride-heavy marine environments.
