The differences lie in their point geometry and installation steps:

  • Self-Drilling Screws: Feature a drill-point tip (similar to a twist drill bit) that drills its own hole in steel or wood before the thread engages. No pilot hole is needed, which speeds up structural assembly work.
  • Self-Tapping Screws: Have a pointed, blunt, or flat tip without integrated drill flutes. They require a pre-drilled pilot hole. The hard, sharp thread profile then cuts or forms the mating thread within the pre-drilled substrate.

Hydrogen embrittlement is a serious concern for high-tensile components. We prevent this through strict controls, including careful raw material sourcing, low-hydrogen chemical processing, heat treatment cycles, and systematic baking processes after electroplating to release trapped atomic hydrogen. We also run mechanical load tests on every batch to confirm safety before shipment.

For marine environments, we recommend high-alloy options. These include A4-80 (316 Grade) or A5-80 stainless steels, Duplex 2205, Super Duplex 2507, and nickel-base superalloys (such as Inconel 718 or Monel 400). These materials offer excellent resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking from exposure to seawater and salt spray.

We provide full documentation, including EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificates, material composition analysis, dimension inspections, hardness testing reports, and certification from major classification societies for marine projects (such as CCS).

For non-standard custom alloys (like Inconel 718 or Titanium alloys), MOQs depend on the size of the fastener and the available raw material stock.
